Dear Dragonfly owners, sailors and friends,

2021 has been a different year and unfortunately still with the COVID in charge of what we are able to do. Here at the yard it has been challenging especially with delivery of boats to foreign clients, but also for our team, who has been forced to stay home some times because of the suspicion of COVID. Luckily we have only had two COVID incidents here at the yard this late fall, and we still keep our fingers crossed.

Having said that, we have never had this level of activity before in our history. It has been a very busy and strange year. This due to the fact that we have basically not developed any new moulds here at the yard in 2021. Instead we invested in new full Carbon moulds for the new Dragonfly 40C versions, made by Marström Composites in Sweden. As we speak, we are working on the first Dragonfly 40C Performance, which will be launched whenever possible in the early spring next year. This is for sure a new era at Quorning Boats.

Boat shows have basically been down to nothing, however Al in the UK did the Southampton Boat Show and Charlotte and Julien in France did the La Rochelle Boat Show. The activity from our side has been very limited this year as BOOT in Düsseldorf was cancelled in January 2021 and we have again decided not to attend at BOOT in January 2022. This is to take care of you and also our team. We will be back at BOOT in 2023 and we look forward to seeing you all again.

As BOOT was cancelled this year, the prestigious “European yacht of The Year “ 2021 prizegiving was online. We had the great pleasure to win this title with the new Dragonfly 40. This is the 4th EYOTY title that we have won. This is for our size of boat yard very special. We are extremely proud and we want to thank the Jury and all involved parties.
The Dragonfly 40 also won the title as “ Multihul of the Year ” by Multihull Magazine, also thank you for this appreciation.

In the lack of boat shows, we made an online presentation of our Dragonfly range, where my son Peter explains the Dragonfly 25, 28, 32 and 40 in details, but make sure you have plenty of snacks, as these videos takes about an hour each. We have received a lot of great response to these videos. New clients from around the world could not visit us at the yard for a tour and test sail as they normally do, and here the videos has been very helpful.

Speaking of my son Peter, he is now working full time at the yard. As a dad and yard owner, my wife Lene and I are very proud and happy to welcome Peter at the yard, as we now have a long term solid business plan. Peter has a bachelor in International Business and Marketing.
Peter will over the next years get to know the yard in details.

We have also expanded the production a bit, with a new assembly line to build the Dragonfly 40. This will give us much more space for all Dragonfly models in the production section.

Unfortunately this year we also had to postpone Dragonfly Days 2021 to next year. We are already working on the planning for this upcoming social event, where we hope to see a lot of our Dragonfly Owner´s again. Stay informed through our Newsletters and on our website, we will soon release further information about this event.

This winter we look forward to present a number of NEW videos, where Peter and I will explain about general trim and sailing a Dragonfly. This is for those who are new in sailing trimarans and/or Dragonfly trimarans. So please keep an eye out for our Newsletters this Winter.

One of my personal high lights in sailing this year, was that I was invited on the Ultim 105 foot Trimaran “SODEBO” in Lorient this summer. Only light winds and in only 14 knots true wind speed , we were full foiling and airborne at 34 knots boat speed – what an experience and amazing setup.

In 2022 we have much more to celebrate. First of all our now 55 years History of building Trimarans, and not least in the spring we will build Trimaran Hull No 1.000 here at the yard – Trimarans all build on this address, under the same roof with our dedicated team.

We hope to see all of you next year, I know we have a long winter still in front of us, but don’t worry, spring will soon be back and many new adventures are waiting for all of us.

Team Dragonfly wishes you all the best for 2022.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year.

Stay safe,

Jens Quorning, CEO
