Dragonfly Winter Season 2021/22
The sailing season 2021 has for some come to an end, after a great summer with lots of great sailing and relaxing moments on the water. This is what it is all about, but now it is time to take good care of our toys. So, here follows a few basic tips and tricks to prepare your boat for the winter season:

Before you pack your boat down for the winter, we recommend to make a list of what needs to be done, to make the boat work well in the upcoming season. We often forget details and next spring it will be too late to make it, or to get spare parts in time.

If you are located in colder climates, always make sure to prepare the boat for this:

  • check that all bilges in all 3 hulls are empty and dry, also forward and aft in the floats.
  • holding tank system is flushed very well several times and empty before you haul out.
  • holding tank and toilet system secured by using antifreeze liquid.
  • the water tank system must be completely empty, and don’t forget to open the drain in the hot water boiler, and leave it open over the winter to avoid frost damage. Unscrew the hose on the waterpumps. Be sure all water is out of the water systems.
  • the forestay head foil is to be stored so the tracks are facing down, frozen water can damage the aluminium foil section if water stay in the open double tracks (important).

Engine:

  • we can only recommend to have this serviced by a professional once every year and do it now, so the engine can “sleep” well and safe over the winter season.

Battery systems:

  • make sure the batteries are charged best around 80-90%.
  • Make sure nothing is draining the battery system and often best to just disconnect the batteries.
  • Always check your battery system every 6 to 8 weeks.
  • For Lithium batteries, please check the manual or with your dealer how best to maintain these as they need a bit extra attention to make sure they live longer and for safety.

Sails and canvas:

  • check that all sails and canvas (sprayhood, cockpit tent, bimini, covers etc.) is completely dry before these are stored for the winter.

Spare Parts or NEW sails:

  • make sure to order spare parts and/or sails before Christmas.
  • if any questions, feel free to contact your local dealer or After Sales here at the yard.

This is some of the steps that you need to go through before the winter season sets in. Feel free to add your own steps as well, cause i
f you take god care of your boat, then your boat will take good care of you.
